A college student named Afsana Akhtar Mim alias Ankhi, 19, committed suicide being a victim of eve-teasing and harassment in Chapainawabganj on Sunday.
A case was filed with Chapainawabganj Sadar Model Police Station against two people in connection with the suicide on Sunday night.
Police already arrested a youth named Faisal. Meanwhile, Ankhi's father, her relatives and classmates staged demon
stration in front of Shahneyamatullah College in Chapainawabganj town on Monday noon demanding arrest and punishment of the accused.
Afsana Akhtar Mim alias Ankhi, daughter of Ayub Ali, an autorickshaw driver of Shahibag Mahalla of Chapainawabganj municipal area, was a student of class 12 at Shahneyamtullah College.
Ankhi was being teased and harassed for a long time by district Chhatra League’s Finance Secretary Md Rimon of Ramkishtopur Mahalla in Chapainawabganj town.
On Sunday afternoon, Rimon teased Ankhi and said obscene things to her. He also used abusive language with her on mobile phone. Being angry and depressed, Ankhi committed suicide by hanging herself at around 1.30 pm. She was rushed to Chapainawabganj Sadar Hospital later, where the on duty doctors declared her dead.
Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Sadar Model Police Station Mozaffar Hossain said that the matter is being investigated. The body was handed over to the family after an autopsy.
