Cold wave cripples life in Chuadanga

The town of Chuadanga is shivering in the bone-chilling winter. In severe winter, the public life of Jibannagar Upazila has come to a complete standstill. Chuadanga recorded the lowest temperature in the country at 8.4 degrees Celsius on Saturday. Chuadanga recorded the lowest temperature in the country on Friday too at 9 degree Celsius. Earlier on Thursday, the minimum temperature in Chuadanga was 9.2 degrees Celsius. The temperature in Chuadanga has been fluctuating between 8 and a half degrees to 13 degrees Celsius for the past one week. The severity of the winter has increased with mild cold currents. Thick fog has been falling like rain since dawn. Due to the foggy weather from morning to evening, the sun is not visible throughout the day. As a result, the life of the people here has been disturbed by the thick fog and cold wind. In winter, the hardworking people are in trouble. They cannot go to work on time. These people are trying to prevent some kind of cold by burning straw. No one leaves the house without special need. Due to the dense fog, the vehicles are driving with their headlights on.

Various winter diseases appear in severe cold. The number of children and elderly patients in the hospital is increasing. Field crops are getting destroyed in winter. The paddy field is damaged.

Rakibul Hasan, officer-in-charge of Chuadanga Meteorological Office, said that the lowest temperature of the country was recorded in Chuadanga on Saturday at 8.4 degrees Celsius. This is the lowest temperature in the district this season. With this, the lowest temperature of the country was recorded in Chuadanga for two days this month. The lowest temperature was also recorded in this district on Friday. Chuadanga recorded the lowest temperature in the country for four days last December. Besides, the amount of air humidity is high. During this season, the temperature may drop further and turn into mild to moderate and then severe cold currents. Ikramul Haque, an easy bike driver of Jibannagar municipal area, said that it is very difficult to drive an easy bike because of the wind. Very few passengers. Due to extreme cold, people are not meeting. The sun is not even rising to warm the sun.

Day laborers waiting to find work at Shahid Hasan Chatwar at Chuadanga Chowrasta intersection said that the winter in Konkan is adding to the severity of the wind in the air. Still the work does not stop. I was forced to look for work.

Farmer Bajlur Rahman of Taltala village of Chuadanga Municipal area said, I came to the field early in the morning for agricultural work. Hands do not move in the cold. If it was sunny, there would be no difficulty in working.

Mahbubur Rahman Milon, child consultant of Chuadanga Sadar Hospital, said that the number of diarrhea and pneumonia patients is increasing due to rotavirus in severe winter. Most of them are pediatric patients. Every day more than 3 to 4 hundred elderly people are receiving treatment at the outdoor hospital for various cold-related diseases including respiratory distress and diarrhoea. Besides, about 400 children are treated outdoors every day. The number of pneumonia patients is increasing due to winter.

Chuadanga Deputy Commissioner Mohammad Aminul Islam Khan said that 20,100 blankets from the Prime Minister's relief fund have been distributed among the people. Another 30,000 blankets have been sent on our behalf. They will be distributed as soon as they are available. Moreover, letters have been sent for the distribution of winter clothes at the private level. I hope to get a response from there.
