Cold-related diseases on the rise in Kishoreganj

The biting cold is affecting many people in Kishoreganj district and they are suffering from cold-related diseases like diarrhoea and pneumonia. As a cold wave sweeps over the country for last few days, the number of patients with cold-related diseases has increased at hospitals in the district. The cold wave has been particularly harsh for people living in the haor and char areas. Low-income people, especially the children and the old, are the worst victims.

The hospitals across Kishoreganj district is witnessing a huge influx of patients. The hospitals are struggling to give treatment to an increased number of people during this winter. More than 50 patients were admitted to Kishoreganj 250-Bed General Hospital in 24 hours on Thursday, said Deputy Director of the hospital Dr Sultana Razia.

Most of the patients are children and newborn babies. The number of people are being affected by the diseases because of acute cold, she further said Meanwhile, the number of such patients has also increased at other upazila Health Complexes of the district.

"The number of children and new born babies suffering from diarrhea and pneumonia is high,” said Kishoreganj Civil Surgeon Dr. Md. Mujibur Rahman.   He also said that doctors at the hospitals have been ordered to carry out their duties properly.
