Coastguard recovers 13 gold bars hidden in Burmese jaggery

Coast Guard has recovered 13 gold bars worth Tk 1 crore 52 lakh hidden in Burmese jaggery from Myanmar.

These gold bars were recovered during the raid on Sunday afternoon, said Lt. Commander Khandaker Munif Taqi, media officer of the Coast Guard Headquarters.

He said, we received news that a man is running away with a yellow sack after coming down from the river in Baraitali area of Teknaf.  Later we reported the matter to Teknaf Coast Guard Station. 

They raided there.  Sensing the presence of the Coast Guard, the man left behind a yellow sack and fled through the jungle.  Later we opened the sack and found 30 kg of Burmese jaggery.  He recovered 13 gold bars from the jaggery.  Each gold weighs 166 grams.  The estimated market price of which is Tk 1 crore 52 lakhs.

He said that the recovered gold bars have been handed over to Teknaf Customs Intelligence and Investigation Circle authorities for further legal action.
