The Bangladesh Coast Guard has seized a large quantity of goods allegedly being smuggled from Bangladesh to Myanmar in exchange for illegal drugs. The items were recovered during a special operation conducted in the Borodia area under Maheshkhali Sadar Police Station.

On Wednesday night, Coast Guard media officer Lieutenant Commander Siam-ul-Haque confirmed the seizure. He said that based on secret intelligence, it was learned that a group of smugglers were attempting to exchange Bangladeshi products for yaba tablets, alcohol, and other narcotics from Myanmar.

Acting on this information, members of the Coast Guard Station Cox’s Bazar launched an operation on Tuesday, 14 October 2025, around 5:00 pm. During the raid, they recovered goods worth approximately Tk 13.65 lakh, including 500 sacks of cement, 23,088 cans of energy drinks, 284 gallons of tar, 500 bottles of Geo Vita syrup, and 135 kg of nylon thread.

The smugglers managed to flee upon sensing the presence of law enforcement, and no arrests were made.

Legal proceedings concerning the seized goods are currently underway. The Coast Guard has affirmed that such anti-smuggling operations will continue in the future to prevent illegal trade and protect national security.
