The Bangladesh Coast Guard has launched a special operation to prevent piracy and robbery in the sea areas adjacent to Cox’s Bazar, Maheshkhali and Kutubdia, ensuring the safety of commercial vessels and fishing boats.

Coast Guard media officer Lt Commander Sabbir Alam Sujon disclosed the information on Monday afternoon (October 5, 2026).

The Coast Guard has intensified round-the-clock patrols, intelligence activities and technology-based surveillance in the areas under its jurisdiction amid concerns over possible attacks by pirate and robbery gangs on commercial vessels and fishing boats.

According to the Coast Guard, public concern has grown in recent days over the possible activities of such gangs in the waters around Cox’s Bazar, Maheshkhali and Kutubdia.

As part of the enhanced security measures, modern patrol vessels and high-speed speedboats are being deployed regularly. The Coast Guard is also using modern radar systems, advanced communication equipment and GPS technology to monitor vessels operating in coastal and maritime areas and detect suspicious movements.

On Monday, a day-long intensive operation was conducted in the assigned maritime areas by Coast Guard Base Chattogram, Coast Guard Ship Sabuj Bangla, and Coast Guard stations in Cox’s Bazar, Maheshkhali, Matarbari and Kutubdia.

The operation focused on providing security to commercial vessels and fishermen engaged in fishing at sea while preventing attacks by pirates and robbery gangs.

The Coast Guard said it has been playing an important role in maintaining security and law and order in the country’s coastal and riverine areas, as well as combating drugs, human trafficking, robbery and piracy.

Lt Commander Arafat Hossain (Taj), BN, Executive Officer of BCG Base Cox’s Bazar, briefed the media about the operation.

The Coast Guard said such operations would continue in the future to keep the country’s maritime, riverine and coastal areas free from robbery and piracy and ensure the safety of people and vessels operating in these areas.
