Coast Guard detains 5 robbers with arms, rescues 9 fishermen

On the basis of secret information, members of Bangladesh Coast Guard South Zone Station of Hatia raided the Ghasiya Char (Telar Char) area under Hatia Police Station in Noakhali and arrested five active members of robber gang Humayun and Kamal Bahini with arms and ammunition on Saturday evening.

At that time, the Coast Guard rescued nine fishermen who were abducted by the robbers. The arrestees are identified as Md. Parvez, 27, Md. Harun, 35, Md. Belal Hossain, 32, Md. Hasan, 37 and Md. Hossain 26. Among them 4 are residents of Ramgati and Kamal Nagar upazilas of Laxmipur district and one is a resident of Tajmuddin upazila of Bhola district. 

At the time, a single-barrelled local gun, a single-barrelled local one-shooter, two rounds of fresh ammunition and three sharp local weapon named ‘Da’ were seized. 

Among the rescued fishermen eight are residents of Hatia and the other one is a residents of Char Jabbar area. 

The arrested robbers have been handed over to Hatia police station for further legal action and arrangements have been made to return the rescued fishermen to their respective residences. 

In addition to maintaining law and order and public security in the areas under the jurisdiction of the Bangladesh Coast Guard, regular operations of the Coast Guard to control piracy and robbery are ongoing and will continue in the future said Coast Guard sources.
