Chittagong Metropolitan Police (CMP) stands beside the unemployed transport workers amid public holiday declared to fight the corona virus infection.
In the first phase food items are being sent to the families of 3,000 workers. S Alam Group a leading industrial organization in the country is assisting the police in these programme.
CMP Commissioner Md. Mahabubar Rahman inaugurated the program of sending food items to transport workers at the Engineers Institute Auditorium in Chittagong City on Sunday.
CMP Commissioner said, "Public transportation including bus, taxi, tempo has been stopped during the holidays across the country including Chittagong city. Many transport workers have become unemployed. Their families have also been living miserably because they are unemployed. Keeping this in view, CMP stands by their side providing them help so that they do not starve, he added.
Food aid packets have been prepared for 3,000 families. There are 11kg of food per packet. Each packet contains - 5 kg rice, 1 kg pulses, 1 kg onion, 2 kg potatoes, salt, soybean oil and 1 soap.
Additional Chief Commissioner of Traffic SM Mostak Ahmed Khan, Additional Commissioner (Crime and Operations) Shyamal Kumar Nath, Deputy Police Commissioner (Traffic-North) Mohammad Shahidullah, Deputy Police Commissioner (Traffic-Port) Tarek Ahmed, S Alam Group official Akij Uddin were also present at the program.
