CMP launches new initiative to check crime

A total of 411 Closed-Circuit (CC) cameras are being set up at 70 important spots in the metropolitan area to increase crime control and surveillance in Chittagong city.  The 'Hello CMP' apps will also give advice on automatic fares for passengers on public transport.

Chattogram Metropolitan Police (CMP) Commissioner Saleh Mohammad Tanvir inaugurated the digital apps related to CCTV cameras and car rental at the media center at Dampara Police Line on Thursday afternoon. 

CMP Commissioner Saleh Mohammad Tanvir said that important areas of the city would be monitored by the central control room through round-the-clock ‘Eyes of CMP’ through CCTV cameras. 

He said ‘70 important spots in the city will be under round-the-clock surveillance by 411 CCTV cameras.  2 technical teams will be on observation for 24 hours.  One team of 2 teams in this control room with 15 days backup storage will be engaged in correcting technical faults in the field and the other will be monitoring from the control room. We are moving forward in this way. There are also plans to add face recognition cameras in the future. 

CMP commissioner said, "Initiatives are being taken to use CCTV cameras in traffic control, which will be under the supervision of a completely separate control room."  Our goal is to reduce crime in the city, detect cases and reduce suffering.” 

He added that the cameras have been installed to identify crime-prone areas over a long period of time after reviewing with the officers in charge of different zones. 

CMP Commissioner Saleh Mohammad Tanvir has officially launched and announced the 'Hello CMP' app for passenger service, thinking of the people suffering from the problem of harassment of 

passengers due to various reasons including bus fares across the country in recent times. 

He inaugurated a new media center at the latest Chattogram Metropolitan Police Office to assist media personnel in exchanging information on law and order.
