CMP launches campaign to check transport fare hike

The government has instructed to increase the fare in the face of the workers' movement after raising the price of diesel.  Although the directive was given only for diesel-powered vehicles, the drivers-helpers of various gas-powered vehicles have been accused of taking extra fare.

The traffic department of CMP took initiative to put red sticker on diesel powered transport to prevent fare hassle in public transport.

Chattogram Metropolitan Police (CMP) Traffic Division South Deputy Commissioner of Police (DC) NM Nasir Uddin led the process of affixing stickers on public transport at Tiger Pass intersection from Saturday morning.

He said it was mandatory for diesel-powered vehicles to have red stickers and CNG-powered vehicles to have green stickers.  Only diesel-powered motor vehicles will be allowed to be rented by the government.

“They are taking legal action against CNG-powered motor vehicles for charging more than before.  Such police operations will continue to reduce the suffering of the passengers”, he added.  He also urged the drivers not to charge more than the fare fixed by the government.

Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police (ADC) Rais Uddin, Assistant Commissioner (AC) Shariful Islam, CMP Traffic South Division Inspector (Admin) Anil Chakma and Traffic Inspector (TI) Jasim Uddin were present on the occasion.
