Police have arrested six members of a robbery gang for robbery and murder from Alangkar intersection area of Pahartali police station in the city.
At that time 10 mobile sets, one passport, one microbus were seized from their possession along with various items used in the robbery. The accused are members of an organised gang of robbers. Police sources also said they robbed the driver of the microbus and so called passengers of the microbus.
Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police (Crime and Operations) Mohammad Shamsul Alam confirmed the matter to the media at a press conference organized by the media center of Chattogram Metropolitan Police Headquarters in Dampara on Thursday afternoon. They were arrested around 10:00pm on Wednesday.
The detainees are- Md Shah Alam (32), Md Abul Kalam (47), Md Zakir Hossain Prakash Saeed Prakash Touhid (36), Md Al Amin (29), Md Mizanur Rahman Prakash Chan Mia (53), Md Nahidur Islam Prakash Harun (31).
CMP Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police Shamsul Alam said on December 19 last year, Hossain, a Dubai expatriate hailed from Zorarganj police station of Chittagong, was waiting for a vehicle at Alangkar intersection of Pahartali police station in Master Nagar area. At that time, he rented a microbus for Tk 100. The microbus driver said that they would drop him off at his destination Jorarganj. Seeing the passengers inside, he got up simply. Four robbers dressed as passengers in a microbus hit him with a hammer and snatched Tk 10,000 in cash, two gold rings, a mobile phone and his passport. He was later thrown on the side of the road in North Betiyara area of Cumilla's Chauddagram police station.
After rescuing the victim Hossain Master in an injured condition, the police brought him to Chittagong Medical College Hospital after first aid. The next day (on December 20) at 7pm he died while undergoing treatment at CMCH. Manjur Hossain, son of the deceased Hossain Master, filed a case of robbery and murder with Pahartali Police Station.
CMP intelligence department is investigating the case. Six people involved in the incident were arrested on Wednesday on the basis of information. They are all members of the Antzela gang. Hammer, skew diver, plus, 2 tip knives, 1 towel, 10 mobile sets, 1 passport and visa copy, 1 microbus were seized from them.
Among the arrested, Shah Alam, Abul Kalam, Zakir Hossain and Al Amin admitted their involvement in the incident of expatriate Hossain Master during preliminary interrogation.
The accused came from Barisal to Dhaka-Chattogram highway and snatched the driver and passenger of the microbus. Last Wednesday, they snatched the passport, visa and cash of a foreigner from Bariarhat area of Jorarganj police station in a microbus at Alangkar intersection.
There are also multiple robbery cases against the rest of the accused in different districts.
He also said that a case has been filed against the arrested persons at Pahartali police station and sent to the court.
