Don’t create unrest, protect students

We are gravely concerned over the students’ academic activities of Khulna University of Engineering and Technology (KUET) and Chittagong Medical College (CMC).

While the KUET on Friday has been declared closed till December 13 amid tension gripping the campus over the death of a teacher of the university, the CMC remains closed for an indefinite period following a clash between two factions of Bangladesh Chhatra League college unit since October 30. As a result academic activities of KUET and CMC remain suspended while all examinations have been postponed. Needless to say, such closure is a big blow to the academic activities of the students.

The authorities of public university and medical colleges reopened their respective residential halls for the students after 18-month of Covid-19 shutdown since October in phases and resumed academic activities. The prolonged closure of educational institutions has badly impacted the country’s education sector.

KUET and CMC authorities must reopen

their respective educational

institutions immediately

A joyful environment is prevailing on the most of the public university campuses as all students, teachers and other staffs are doing their respective jobs maintaining strict health safety guidelines. Besides, the university authorities are very happy to get their students back on campuses.

But the closure of KUET and CMC is letting students’ dreams and hopes fade throwing their academic activities into uncertainty again. We think a clique in Bangladesh is very active and the politics of conspiracy is still going on to create unrest in the country’s education sector.

In this regard, the government will have remain alert as there will be tougher challenges in the days to come.

Besides, the university authorities must play a key role in order to keep the higher educational institutions running and continue the academic activities for the greater interest of the students. And if any untoward incident occurs, the university authorities have to handle the situation smartly and carry out a fair investigation.

We think the conspirators are taking preparations to create unrest in the country centering the universities with a target to oust the incumbent government. We are calling upon the university authorities to give special attention to their  students to keep their mental and physical health sound in check.

KUET and CMC authorities must reopen their respective educational institutions immediately. Besides, other public universities have to remain alert so that no element gets any scope to create unrest.  We hope, the

universities will do everything to create a congenial environment for running academic activities smoothly.
