‘Climate Change Trust Fund is a unique example’

Minister for Environment, Forests and Climate Change Md Shahab Uddin on Thursday said the formation of Climate Change Trust Fund with the government's own funding is a unique example in the world as the first country on the special initiative of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.

So far 789 projects have been taken up with the funding of the Climate Change Trust Fund.  The successful implementation of these projects will help enable the country to cope with the effects of climate change, he sdded.

The Minister made the remarks while addressing the 53rd meeting of the Board of Trustees on Climate Change held through video conferencing on Thursday.  Agriculture Minister Muhammad AbdurRazzaque, Minister for Local Government Division  MdTazul Islam, Foreign Minister AK Abdul Momen, Food Minister Sadhan Chandra Majumder, State Minister for Shipping Khalid Mahmud Chowdhury, State Minister for Water Resources Zaheed Farooque, State Minister for Women and Children Begum Fazilatun Nesa,  Deputy Minister of Environment, Forests and Climate Change Begum HabibunNahar, Secretary Ziaul Hasan NDC, PKSF Chairman KaziKhaliquzzaman Ahmed and secretaries of various ministries also spoke in the meeting.

Shahab Uddin said the transparency and quality of the projects under implementation will be ensured with the funding of the Climate Trust Fund.  Monitoring and supervision activities will be intensified for the completion of ongoing projects in a timely manner. He said that initiatives have been taken to evaluate the projects implemented through climate change trust fund through outsourcing.

The meeting also approved revised proposals for inter-sectoral coordination of 18 ongoing projects and reduction and increase in work volume and application for extension of time for 40 projects.  Due to the Covid-19 situation, the period of the ongoing project including the new project has been extended by 1 year from the approved period / extended period and the application for extension of 1 year from the approved period has been approved for all the ongoing projects which have expired in June, 2020.  It was also decided to take action against the project director in accordance with the PPR in case of any deviation or irregularity in the work of the ongoing project sanctioned with the funding of Climate Change Trust Fund.
