3-month long certificate course on 'Climate Change and Public Health' begun on June 8, at prof. Abdur Latif Auditorium at Dhaka University( DU).
In the press release, Mahmud Alam, Director of PRO, has cleared it. Dhaka University Disaster Science and Climate Resilience Department and Climate Change Health Promotion Unit (CCHPU) of Ministry of Health and Family Welfare jointly organised the program.
Prof.ASM Maksud Kamal, Vice chancellor of DU, inaugurated the event as the chief guest while Dr. Zillur Rahman, Chairman and Dean of Environmental Science Faculty, has presided over the event.
AKM Sohel, Head of UN ERD Wing, David Shimkus, Senior Director of Climate affairs, Md. shafiqul Islam, Health Adviser to the UK-based Organization FCDO, prof. Dr. Iqbal Kabir, Coordinator of CCHPU, were present as the special Guests.
Vice Chancellor Prof. ASM Maksud Kamal said, “The number of natural disasters across the world is increasing day by day due to climate change and it will increase further in the future. Because of climate change, the incidence of various diseases, including dengue and chikungunya, is increasing and it is posing a serious threat to human health. Climate change is the greatest threat to humanity”.
He also said, “ The developed countries are responsible for climate change. They should feel its harmful effects and compensate the affected countries”.
The Vice-Chancellor hoped, “The participants of this course would gain proper knowledge about climate resilient and safe health systems and play an effective role in sustaining the development of the country by addressing the challenges of climate change”.
It should be noted that 40 people including teachers, researchers, experts and representatives of public and private institutions participated in this course
