CID hands over 21 bodies of N’ganj fire victims

The authorities on Saturday handed over the remains of 21 bodies of the workers of the Hashem Foods Ltd factory to their families.

On July 8, the workers died in the fire at the Hashem Foods Ltd factory in Rupganj of Narayanganj.

The charred bodies were handed over after the forensic unit of the police’s Criminal Investigation Department (CID) had identified 45 out of 48 deceased workers through DNA analysis.

However, CID is yet to confirm the identities of three more bodies.

CID officials said that they had to take long time to identify these victims because their bodies had been completely burnt in the fire.

A total of 24 bodies were released on August 4.

Those whose bodies were handed over on Saturday are –Amena Akhter, Rahima, Rabia Akhter, Md Akash Mia, Md Nazmul Hossain, Kalpana Rani Barman, Swapan Mia, Shefali Rani Sarkar, Amrita Begum, Md Shamim, Selina Akhter, Taslima Akhter, Fatima Akhter, Md Hasnain, Mahmuda Akhter, Santa Moni, Mahbubur Rahman, Jihad Rana, Rahima Akhter, Mina Khatun and Md Noman.

Narayanganj district administration gave Tk 25,000 to the families of each victim for holding the funerals.
