Chuadanga Free Day today

Chuadanga district was liberated from the clutches of Pakistani Army on December 7 in 1971. To know it freedom fighters, political leaders and activists of Awami League gathered at Chaurasta Mour in Chuadanga town and chanted slogan in a voice-Joy Bangla, Joy Bangla.  The national flag that is color is red and green was hoisted at the area on the day. 

Awami League, Muktijuddha Sangsad and district administration have taken programs including hoisting of national flag, rallies, discussion meetings, cultural functions and showing of short film on freedom fighting and placing wreaths to the momentum of martyred freedom fighters to mark the day.  

It may be mentioned, local Awami League leaders, led by Ashabul Hoque Hyava made a decision to declare Chuadanga as first capital of Bangladesh on April 4 in 1971. Several committees were formed for fighting against the Pakistani army. National flag of Bangladesh was hoisted by Hafizur Rahman Joarder on the day. Solaiman Hoque Joarder Selun and Siddique Jaman Nantue spoke after hoisting flag. 

Pakistani occupation army acknowledged the declaration of first capital of Bangladesh and marched from Jashore cantonment to Chuadanga on  April 5,  entered Chuadanga on  April 5 evening and captured Chuadanga district town on April 6 in 1971. They shot to death about 4 hundred people at Sorojgonj bazaar on Chuadanga-Jhenidah road in Chuadanga sadar upazila and set fire on houses and shops on April 5 evening. In Chuadanga town, the occupation army killed at least 150 common people on April 6. 

On August 5, 1971, a fight occurred between Pakistani army and freedom fighters at village Jogonnathpur-rotonpur in Damurhuda upazila of the district. At least 8 freedom fighters were killed by the Pakistani army in the gunfight. 

The martyred are Kiamuddin, Hasanzaman, Abul Kashem, Rowshan Ali, Robiul Islam, Alaul Islam Khakon, Afazuddin and Tarek Rahman. Local people buried them at village Jogonnathpur in the upazila. 

A momentum of the 8 martyred and one rest house were built on one acres of land under the direct initiative of Freedom fighter Solaiman Hoque Joarder Selun, MP. A park is also established there. 

On August 7, 1971, there was a gunfight between freedom fighters and Pakistani army at Dhupakali village in Jibannagar upazila of the district. Five freedom fighters were shot dead by the Pakistani army. The martyred freedom fighters are Abdul Gofur, Abdur Rashid, Abu Bakar, Abdul Aziz and Siddique Ali. Some soldiers of Pakistani army were also killed by freedom fighters in the battle. 

On December 7, 1971, Chuadanga was freed from the clutches of the Pakistan occupation forces. The people of Chuadanga celebrate the day every year with great joy, pride enthusiasm as the flag of the independent Bangladesh fluttered in the free sky of Chuadanga at first after nine months grim battle against the occupation forces. 

Before leaving Chuadanga on December 6 Pakistani army damaged Jalshuka bridge on Hiajlgari-Chuadanga road, Daulatdiar bridge on Chuadanga-Meherpur road in Sadar upazila, Lalbridge on Jibannagar-Chuadanga road in Jiban-nagar upazila, Chuadan-ga sadar hospital and  Chuadanga T &T office.  

All army of Pakistan in Chuadanga divided into two parts. One part of them went to Kushtia and another part rushed to Jhinedah. Local people, Awami league leaders, activists of awamileague, common people and muktizoddha assembled at Chaorasta Mour in the district town and chanted slogan in a voice-Joy Bangla,Joy Bangla.
