Chuadanga cattle markets abuzz with sellers, buyers

Buyers and sellers are passing busy time at the 11 cattle markets in Chuadanga for buying and selling the sacrificial animals ahead of Eid-ul-Azha. 

Chuadanga District Livestock Department sources said at least 10,917 owners of cattle farms and cattle farmers have reared some 2,11,879 cattle in four upazilas of Chuadanga district on the eve of Eid-ul-Azha.

The sources also said about 54,891 cows, 160 buffaloes, 1,52,896 goats, 3,925 sheep and 7 other sacrificial animals have been prepared by the farmers and owners of several cattle farms in the district. There is a demand of 1,58,856 cattle in the district. However, the rest of 53,023 cattle are surplus in the district which will be sold to Dhaka, Chattogram and other parts of the country. 

Upazila wise cattle farm owners are- 2,676 in Sadar Upazila, 3,599 in Alamdanga Upazila, 1,928 in Damurhuda Upazila and 2,714 in Jibannagar Upazila. 

Rafiqul Islam of Hazrahati village in Sadar Upazila said, he reared two cows and sold them at Tk 2,20,000.

Muktar Ali, a cattle businessman of Majhhat village in Alamdanga Upazila said that he bought three cows from Munsigonj Poshu Haat in Alamdanga Upazila and sold them to a businessman of Dhaka at Tk 8,20,000.

Nazrul Islam of Boalmari village in Sadar Upazila of the district said small cows are being sold between Tk 1,00,000 to Tk 1,20,000, mid-sized cows between Tk 1,70,000 to Tk 1,95,000 and big sized cows are being sold from Tk 2,00,000 to above. 

Dr Shamimuzzaman Shamim, District Livestock Officer, said farmers and others will sell the sacrificial animals to other parts of the country after filling up local demands of sacrificial animals. 

Superintendent of Police of Chuadanga RM Fayezur Rahman said police personnel are deployed at cattle markets to maintain law and order.
