Chittagong Medical University honours six freedom fighters

Chittagong Medical University celebrated the historic Victory Day with due solemnity. On the occasion, six freedom fighters were honoured for their contributions.

A wreath-laying ceremony was held at the memorial on the university premises to pay tribute to the martyrs on Wednesday. University officials and staff were present and remembered the sacrifices of the 1971 martyrs with deep respect. Special prayers were also offered for the forgiveness of the souls of the departed.

Following this, a discussion on the significance of Victory Day and a ceremony to honour the brave freedom fighters were organised under the supervision of the university's Assistant Registrar, Md. Alauddin.

Six freedom fighters were formally recognised during the event, which also highlighted the history and importance of the Liberation War.

As part of the Victory Day celebrations, a friendly cricket match and a pitha festival were organised. Two university teams participated in the cricket match, which was inaugurated by the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Dr. Omar Faruk Yusuf.

The function was attended by the Dean of the Faculty of Basic Sciences and Para-Clinical, Professor Dr. Ajay Dev; Dean of the Faculty of Nursing, Professor Dr. Meherunnisa Khanam; Dean of the Faculty of Dental, Professor Dr. Rahim Ullah; Principals of Chittagong International Medical College and Dental College; University Director of Finance, Mohammad Ikramul Haque Khan; College Inspector, Professor Dr. Moinal Hossain; Executive Engineer, Farhad Rashid; Assistant Director of Finance, Misbah Ibne Hakim; and all officers and staff of the university.

During the event, the freedom fighters emphasised the contributions of the nation’s finest sons to the younger generation and discussed the importance of the Liberation War.

As part of the national celebration, the university buildings were illuminated in honour of Victory Day.
