A child drowned while learning to swim with a banana plant in Jhalakati's Nalchiti. The incident took place at Barikaran village in Kulkathi union of the upazila on Saturday noon. The deceased was identified as Momin, 8, son of Shamsul Haque of Barikaran village. According to the locals, Momin went to learn to swim in the pond of the house with a banana tree at noon and drowned. Later, the family members rescued them and took them to Nalchiti Upazila Health Complex. The doctor on duty there declared him dead. Nalchiti Police Officer-in-Charge (OC) Ataur Rahman said no one had informed us about the drowning.
