Child dies of Dengue in Bandarban

A child died due to dengue disease in Bandarban Sadar Hospital on Sunday.

The deceased was identified as Md Abduallah, 8, resident of Bandarban municipality, son of Female Ward Councilor of ward No. 7, 8 and 9 in Bandarban municipality Shahana Akhter Shanu.

Local sources said Abdullah was under pri­mary treatment at his home due to fever. However, he was admitted to Bandarban Sadar Hospital on Saturday and tested positive for dengue in the medical tests. Later, he died at the hospital on Sunday morning while receiving treatment there.

Civil Surgeon of Bandarban district Dr Md Mahbubur Rahman confirmed the matter. He said the patient was brought late at the hospital. Moreover, he was being treated at home even after being tested dengue positive. He was admitted to the hospital on Saturday at the last moment. Later, he died on Sunday morning while receiving treatment in the hospital.

Four dengue infected members of the same family Raisa Hasan, Hridika Hasan, Laboni and Raqibul Hasan, who live in Army Para area, said Raqibul Hasan infected with fever first on July 8. Later, gradually others fell sick due to fever and went to take tests in the hospital. Everyone was tested positive for dengue in the tests. All of them got admitted into the hospital and were receiving treatment since then.

Sources from Bandarban Sadar Hospital said a total of 65 people, including 41 males and 24 females, were infected with dengue from January to July 14. Among them, 21 people were infected in the last 14 days and one of them died. A total of 11 patients are currently admitted in the hospital due to dengue disease. This is the first time a patient died from dengue disease in Bandarban Sadar Hospital.
