Chicken up, onion still dearer

The price of chicken has gone up again in a week. At the same time, onions are still being sold at higher prices. Consumers have expressed dissatisfaction over the sudden rise in onion prices.

The price of winter vegetables has come down a bit due to the increased supply. 

The situation has been observed after visiting a good number of kitchen markets in the capital on Friday.

The price of boiler chicken has increased by Tk 5 per kg in the markets of the capital during the week. With this, the price of broiler chicken has increased by Tk 15 per kg in two consecutive weeks.

Broiler chickens are being sold at Tk 165-170 per kg. Sonali chicken is being sold at Tk 270-280 which was being sold at Tk 260-270 during the last week. Red layer chicken is being sold at Tk 220-230 per kg as before.

Onion prices have remained unchanged. Like last week, onion is being sold at Tk 70-80 per kg. However, new local onion is being sold at Tk 40 per kg.

Prices of most vegetables in the market have come down by Tk 10 to Tk 15 per kg.

Per kg tomato is being sold at Tk 60 which was being sold at Tk 120 last week.

Yardlong bean is being sold at Tk 50-70, beans at Tk 40-50, brinjal at Tk 40-50, bitter gourd at Tk 80, carrot at Tk 50, pumpkin at Tk 40, radish at Tk 30-40 and snake gourd at Tk 50.  

A large size cauliflower and cabbage is being sold at Tk40 per piece, and gourd at Tk 50. 

The price of potatoes have also come down. Potatoes are being sold at Tk 30 per kg in markets. Old potatoes are being sold at Tk 25 per kg. Greenchillies are being sold at Tk 60-80 per kg. 

Green bananas are being sold at Tk 30 per four pieces (hali), per kg papaya at Tk 30-40 and cucumber at Tk 60 and per four pieces lemon is being sold at Tk 15-20.

Dried chilies are being sold at Tk 150 to Tk 250 per kg, garlic at Tk 80-130, ginger at Tk 140 and turmeric at Tk 160 to Tk 220 per kg. Besides, Indian lentils are being sold at Tk 90 per kg while local lentils at Tk 110 per kg.

In retail level edible oil is being sold at Tk 160 per liter. Sugar is being sold at Tk 80 per kg. Besides, a one kg packet sugar is being sold at Tk 85 per kg. 

The price of eggs have remained unchanged throughout the week. A dozen of red eggs are being sold at Tk 100,  while a dozen of duck and Sonali chicken eggs are being sold at Tk 180.
