Chattogram City Corporation (CCC) Mayor Freedom Fighter Md Rezaul Karim Chowdhury wants to build a healthy Chittagong by utilizing South Korea's experience in modernizing Chattogram's waste management.

In an interview with Korean Ambassador Lee Jang Keun on Tuesday, the mayor said, I want to use South Korea's method of converting waste into resources through modern waste management in Chattogram.  We have taken initiatives to protect public health and generate energy from waste.  I want Chattogram to become a clean model city like Seoul in Korea.

"Chattogram City Corporation has currently invested heavily in the infrastructure sector. South Korea can use the communication facilities of Chittagong to further advance in global trade. The Prime Minister has given me a project of Tk 2500 crore to modernize most of the important roads, especially Chattogram airport road. This project will transform the communication system of Chattogram.  South Korea can benefit greatly by setting up new industries in the Chattogram EPZ, Korean EPZ and Mirsharai Economic Zone by exploiting the benefits of this project area."

Korean Ambassador Lee Jang Keun said that South Korea has selflessly played a role in the development of Bangladesh since independence.  South Korea leads the world in infrastructure and technology.  We want to apply South Korea's experience in Chattogram to help transform into a developed city.

"South Korea is interested in providing technology and experience to the development of Chattogram as well as providing financial support. South Korea has become a symbol of global trust by doing quality and sustainable work in any project it is entrusted with. South Korea's involvement in development projects will benefit Bangladesh in the long run."

The meeting was attended by the political analyst of Bangladesh Embassy in South Korea Haiyun Kim, CCC Secretary Khaled Mahmud, Chief Engineer Rafiqul Islam, Mayor's Private Secretary and Chief Cleaner Mohammad Abul Hashem, Chief Accounting Officer Humayun Kabir Chowdhury.
