Chattogram WASA testing 24 point water sample

There are many complaints about WASA water in Chattogram city. The High Court for this reason ordered the formation of a four-member committee to examine the waters of Chattogram WASA on March 6.  The committee was asked to test the water and submit a report within a month.

 In the light of that application, WASA is testing 24 point samples in 3 labs to see if there is any problem in the water.

 This sample collection has started from 13th June.  So far most of the point samples have been collected.

 The sample water is being tested in the labs of the Department of Microbiology, Faculty of Biology, Chittagong University, Bangladesh Council of Science and Industry Research (BCSIR) and the Department of Environment.

 The committee headed by Divisional Commissioner Md. Ashraf Uddin includes Professor Dr Zobaidul Alam of the Department of Microbiology, Chittagong University, Dr Dipankar Chakraborty, Representative of BCSIR and Kamrul Hasan, Representative of the Department of Environment.

 Water samples are being taken from five WASAR refineries, 10 distribution points and 4 points at customer level in Chattogram.  The five refineries are: Sheikh Hasina Water Treatment Plant, Sheikh Hasina Water Treatment Plant-2, Sheikh Russell Water Treatment Plant, Mohra Water Treatment Plant and Kalurghat Iron Removal Plant and Boosting Station at Rangunia.

 The 10 distribution points are: Patenga, DT Road, Halishahar B Block, Halishahar Eidga Raw Road, Agrabad Commercial Area, Jamalkhan, Chandgaon Residential Area, Chawkbazar Hill, Mohammadpur Residential Area of Muradpur and KB Aman Ali Road of Baklia.

 At the customer level, water samples are being collected from Barapul Halishahar G Block, Amirbagh residential area of Mehedibagh, Parade Corner of Chawkbazar and Badamtal area of Khwaja Road.

 Dr Zobaidul Alam, Professor, Department of Microbiology, University of Chittagong, a member of the committee, said, "So far, we have taken 13-point water samples from WASA.  They are being tested separately in three places.  Half a point remains to be sampled.  First we finish the sample collection of all the points.  Then I can tell the details.  I will give a full report after checking all the samples.
