Chattogram Urban Network (CUN) comprising of more than 20 local, national and international non-governmental development organizations, United Nations agencies officially launched Chattogram.
The network was formally inaugurated at an information meeting at S Rahman Auditorium of the city's Press Club on Sunday.
It was announced at the event that the aim of this network is to involve all stakeholders from government, private and other sectors of society to build a safe, sustainable and inclusive Chattogram city.
In the inaugural ceremony, Chattogram Urban Network (CUN) Advisory Committee member Subhash Chandra Barua, Vice President of Chattogram Forum, Chattogram University (CU) former Vice-Chancellor Dr. Iftekhar Hossain Chowdhury, Chattogram University (CU) Law Professor Professor ABM Abu Noman, Nishpap Autism Foundation President Professor Dr. Basna Mahuri, Prothom Alo News Editor Omar Kaiser, Agrabad Women's College Former Principal Educationist Anwara Alam were present.
Uppal Barua, member of the network's advisory committee, moderated. Chattogram City Corporation (CCC) Urban Planner Omar Abdullah, Chattogram University of Science and Technology (CUET) Assistant Professor Shahjalal Mishuk, River and Canal Protection Forum convener Aliur Rahman were present as special guests in the meeting.
Speakers at the meeting said that in order to achieve the objectives of this network, first of all, their capabilities, weaknesses, opportunities and threats will be identified, and through various advocacy, research and discussion, all will take initiatives together to solve the problems of the city. The speaker also said that various private development organizations in Chattogram have been implementing various projects and initiatives as subsidiary organizations of the government. All the programs will be undertaken jointly through this network. Through this network, the role and opinion of people at all levels will be ensured in the city master plan of Chattogram.
At the beginning of the program, Chattogram Urban Network co-convener Mustafa Kamal gave a welcome speech. After that, Nasim Banu, convenor of the network, presented a brief documentary about the network's goals, objectives, structure, and action plan. Chattogram Urban Network Co-Secretary Liton Chowdhury announced the end of the meeting by expressing the commitment of all to work together to strengthen this network.
Its mentioned that the process of forming the Chattogram Urban Network (CUN) was ongoing since last year to realize the importance of Chattogram's urban-based growing problems and take initiatives in joint efforts. The member organizations of this network are Agrajatra, Bright Bangladesh Forum, BETA, BRAC, CDF, CODEC, DSK, Elma, Ghasful, Swapnil Bright Foundation, JSUS, Caritas Bangladesh, Nishkriti, Save the Children, Songshoptaque, Mamata, UNDP, YPSA, Word Vision. An Executive Committee and Advisory Committee of 9 members have already been formed to manage the network.
