Chattogram Port’s operations normal after storm

Published : 25 Oct 2022 08:59 PM

Chattogram port operations have resumed after being closed for about 18 hours due to the impact of Cyclone Sitrang.  Ships have started returning to the jetty from the port's outer anchorage.

Chattogram Port Director (Transport) Anamul Karim confirmed this information on Tuesday morning.  Earlier on the same day, Chattogram port operations started in the morning.

At the same time, cargo movement and container handling have started.

Its mentioned that since Monday afternoon, the sea-going ships from the port were sent to outer anchorage due to the fear of the cyclone hitting.  Later, as the situation almost returned to normal, these ships were brought back to the port from Tuesday morning and operations were started.  At present, cargo movement and container handling in Chittagong port are running at normal speed.

I Port Director (Transport) Anamul Karim said that the Chattogram port has resumed since 9 am on Tuesday as the effect of Cyclone Sitrang has subsided and the warning signal given to the ports by the Meteorological Department has been lifted.  He said that the tide is needed for ships to come and go at the jetty of Chattogram port.  Vessels sent out at high tide since morning are being brought to the jetty after the effects of Cyclone Sitrang have subsided.  A few ships have already arrived.  By noon, all vessels already berthed may return to the jetty.  In the meantime, normal operations of the port have started.
