Chattogram DC distributes Eid gifts to 700 families

Chattogram district administration distributed Eid gifts among 700 helpless families of various classes and professions including the distressed, destitute, day labourers, construction workers, hotel-restaurant boys, destitute, destitute and physically challenged in Chattogram city on the occasion of the holy Eid-ul-Fitr.

Chattogram District Commissioner Abul Basar Mohammad Fakhruzzaman distributed Eid gifts on Thursday afternoon.  Each packet of gift items contained- 7 kg of rice, 1 kg of lentils, 2 kg of sugar, 1 kg of salt, 2 liters of soybean oil, sweetmeats and other products.

 Additional Deputy Commissioner (General) Rakib Hasan presided over the meeting.  President of Chattogram Chamber of Commerce and Industry Mahbubul Alam was present as a special guest in the distribution of Eid gifts.

 Metropolitan Freedom Fighter Commander Heroic Freedom Fighter Mozaffar Ahmad, Chattogram Chamber of Commerce and Industries Director Ahid Siraj Chowdhury Swapan, District Relief and Rehabilitation Officer Sajib Chakraborty and district administration officials were present on the occasion.  Volunteers of Red Crescent, CPP and Manavik Chattola, Social Organizations assisted in the distribution of gifts.

Speaking during the distribution of Eid gifts, Deputy Commissioner Abul Basar Mohammad Fakhruzzaman said that every year in Ramadan, Chattogram district administration organizes Iftar party in honor of public and private senior officials, public representatives, politicians, business leaders and other people of various classes and professions.  Instead of organizing an iftar party this year, the money allotted for the iftar party was given to the 700 needy families of various classes and professions, including the poor, destitute, destitute, day labourers, construction workers, hotel-restaurant boys, destitute, destitute and physically challenged.  An initiative has been taken to distribute Eid gifts.  The district administration has taken this initiative to enjoy the joy of Eid with the helpless people of the society.

Chattogram Chamber President Mahbubul Alam said that various institutions and prominent individuals are organizing Iftar parties every day during Ramadan.  A large portion of the food served at these iftar parties is wasted and a lot of money is spent on organizing them.  Avoiding such lavish iftar parties as much as possible, he requested the concerned to distribute this money among the helpless and the poor.

Metropolitan unit commander Muzaffar Ahmad said, instead of iftar party, the initiative of the district administration, Chattogram to help the poor and distressed of the society is commendable.  The rich people of the society along with public and private institutions should come forward in this kind of welfare work throughout the year including Ramadan.
