Chattogram Challengers defeat Durdanto Dhaka

Chattogram Challengers returned to winning ways defeating Durdanto Dhaka by six wickets after losing the second match by five-wicket to Khulna Tigers in the ongoing Bangladesh Premier League (BPL). 

Chattaogram won the first match against the Sylhet Strikers but went down to Khulna in the second match. 

Held at the Shere-e-Bangla National Stadium on Monday, in a foggy morning, Chattogram Challengers’ captain Shuvagata Hom won the toss and sent Dhaka into bat first.

Dhaka saw a huge setback when their opener Danushka Gunathilaka retired hurt after playing seven balls. 

Danushka Gunathilaka the opener who paved the way scoring 41 runs and 101 runs in the opening pair with Mohammed Naim for Duranta Dhaka to win in their first match, took one run from the first over off Shuvagata Hom and returned to dressing room after playing just the first ball of Al-Amin’s first over.

However, after the departure of Gunathilaka, Duranta Dhaka lost three front-liners - Saif Hassan, Mohammed Naim and Mosaddek Hossain with Al-Amin, Nihaduzzaman and the captain Shuvagata Hom striking to put Dhaka into deep trouble reducing them 31 for three wickets. 

Alex Ross coming into crease to rebuild the damage, was run out for 11 runs and Dhaka tumbled to 33 for four. 

Irfan Sukkur and Lasith Croospulle just rescued Duranta Dhaka from the disaster with scoring 63 runs off 47 balls in sixth wickets partnership.

Irfan played a sensible 27 off 26 balls hitting only two boundaries but being pressure Lasith Croospulle was very much aggressive when he played the most valuable and the team highest 46 off 31 balls with three fours and two sixes. 

After being the sixth wicket stand departed on team’s 106 runs by 15.4 overs, the tail enders could add just 30 runs with pacer Taskin Ahmed scored 15 from nine deliveries, as Duranta Dhaka could make a respectable 136 runs in 20 overs for eight. 

Chasing to a modest target, Chattogram Challengers despite facing a bit trouble with losing two wickets for 28 runs in a quick succession but one of the opener Tanzid Hasan and Shahadat Hossain dealt with the situation well.  

Shoriful Islam struck back to back to get out the opener Avishka Fernando and one down   Imranuzzaman for 12 and 22 runs respectively to make huge threat to Chattogram Challenger.   

But Tanzid Hasan and Shahdat Hossainin scored 53 runs in third wicket partnership and Tanzid made another 24 runs in fourth wickets stand with Najibullah Zadran, that made it easy for Chattogram to reach target. Tanzid Hasan scored the team highest 49 off 40 balls when Shadat Hossain scored 22 runs from 31 deliveries. 

Najibullah Zadran was unbeaten for with 32 off 19 balls when the Afghan hammered three towering sixes and a four, as CTG Challenger reached to 137 for four to win the match with 10 balls remaining after beginning their campaign with a five-wicket defeat to Khulna Tigers.
