Today (December 20) is Chatmohar Free Day. On December 16, 1971, when the whole country was intoxicated with victory, Chatmohar was still under siege. After the start of the liberation war, the people of Chatmohar also jumped into the war. Builds resistance. In April 1971, the Pak aggressors twice tried to enter Pabna. The mob retreated and fled.

At the end of May, the Pakistani army, armed with sophisticated weapons, crossed the Nagarbari Ghat from Dhaka and entered Pabna. During this time, they occupied various areas including Chatmohar of Pabna in phases. The Pak army set fire to different areas of Sadar upazila. Leaders of both the Hindu and Muslim communities in the city called the locals to the police station and detained them. The invaders looted the Chatmohar branch of the then National Bank. They shot dead two guards, including bank manager Abul Kalam Khan. Prominent businessmen Jatin Kundu, Raghunath Kundu, Jharu Tagore and Ashwini Kundu were killed. The detainees were saved by the bravery of the then OC of Chatmohar Police Station Abdul Baten and Second Officer Abul Kashem. The two policemen broke the lock and helped them escape and escaped on their own.

The Pakistani invaders carried out these killings and moved to Pabna. A few days later, they took possession of Chatmohar police station and took a permanent position. After that they formed Razakar forces and peace committee and with their help carried out torture and occupied Chatmohar. The freedom fighters entered the village area in early November. With the help of the locals, the police station started organizing for the attack. Small-scale covert attacks on the attackers also continued. On 11 November, the freedom fighters in Naogaon of the adjoining Tarash upazila faced resistance from the invading forces on the last night. At that time about 300 Pak soldiers and razakars were killed by the freedom fighters in a fierce battle of about 12 hours at Palashdanga.

After receiving this news, the attackers of Chatmohar became frustrated. They stopped going out. The freedom fighters attacked the police station on 13 December. The assailants, led by freedom fighters Commander Mozammel Haque Moyez, SM Mozaharul Haque, Amjad Hossain Lal and Idris Ali Chanchal, stormed the police station. They turned the police station into a fortress as their last refuge. Moslem Uddin and Abu Taleb, two brothers of Ramnagar

village of the upazila, were caught by the assailants on this day for chanting 'Joy Bangla'. The next morning the Pak army shot and killed them. The freedom fighters attacked the police station on 15 December and forced the invaders to surrender. At that time the freedom fighters shot and killed a Pak invader named Sher Afghan.

On the afternoon of 16 December, the invading forces flew a white flag and called for a flag meeting to surrender. In this case, the firing stopped for two days. At 11 am on December 16, Commander Mozammel Haque Moyez, SM Mozaharul Haque and Idris Ali took part in a discussion between Chanchal Police Station. Returning at 2 pm, he said that the Pak aggressors had agreed to surrender. However, they have made it a condition of surrender in the presence of allied forces.

Finally, on the morning of 20 December, the freedom fighter commander went to Pabna and brought the district commander Rafiqul Islam Bakul to Chatmohar dressed as an ally. The assailants surrendered to Rafiqul Islam Bakul, the commander of the fake allied forces, at 2 pm and were sent to Pabna in a horse-drawn carriage. In this way, after the four days of Victory Day, December 20 is the free chatmohar of the invaders.
