We highly applaud the Election Commission’s (EC) desire to create a scope for the BNP and other parties, which are currently reluctant to join the country’s upcoming Jatiya Sangsad (JS) election.

Replying to different queries of journalists at the Nirbachan Bhaban in the city’s Agargaon area Election Commissioner Rashida Sultana said that the EC is committed to ensuring a level-playing field for all candidates to contest the upcoming parliament elections. If the BNP formally informs the EC that it wants to take part in the election, it will be possible to create a scope for the party through discussion.

The commission also asked the political parties to keep trust on it.  So, if the BNP comes, the EC will consider as it wants to see a good election with the participation of all the parties.

Now the political situation in Bangladesh is peaceful. The JS polls will be held in line with the provisions of the country’s Constitution as there is no scope to go beyond the Constitution.

The BNP’s one-point demand is the resignation of the Awami League government and formation of a non-partisan government. But, the party (BNP) neither got any support for the demand from the people of Bangladesh nor from foreigners.

The political parties which believe in democracy and peace and nurture the spirit and ideals of the Great Liberation War will respond to EC’s call and contest the next polls. It is known to all AL is always an election-oriented democratic party, which believes in election to change the government.

All political parties should

participate in elections

under the commission

The party (AL) never used the backdoor for grabbing power; rather it always assumes state power through elections. But, BNP wants to go to power in an illegal way as it was created in unlawful way. The BNP-Jamaat clique is an anti-state evil political force which was created at the blessings of a Pakistani intelligence agency. Like in the past, the clique is plotting to return to power through the backdoor in the next elections.

We have seen this party (BNP) created from the pocket of a military dictator, repeatedly trying to come to power through the backdoor. So, they are not interested in polls.

These political parties do not want to participate in elections fearing of losing their self-dignity. When they want to stay away from the elections or boycott the polls they blame the government, which is also an undemocratic mindset.

The election is only the best way for government changeover. People should decide who will run the country as it is their power. We believe those who think they can foil the next general elections and topple the government through some rallies are living in a fools’ paradise.

During the polls, Bangladesh Awami League is a side in that election and in the same way BNP is also a side. So, all political parties should participate in elections under the commission.

Elections will be held in Bangladesh as like as all parliamentary democratic countries across the globe including India, Australia, Japan, the United Kingdom, Continental European countries.

So, BNP must discard the demand for restoration of the caretaker government system ahead of the upcoming general elections as it (system) has been sent to the museum by a court order.

Now all eyes from around the country are trained on the commission with the 12th parliamentary polls approaching nearer. To achieve a culture of peoples’ trust, the commission led by CEC Kazi Habibul Awal is doing the best that how and in what way they will tackle the country’s all political parties smoothly amid challenges.

The Awami League government led by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina is determined to hold a free, fair and credible election in Bangladesh. The government has done everything required to hold a fair election that includes introducing a voter list with photographs and transparent ballot boxes as none can manipulate the polls. We hope, the country’s all political parties will participate in the next general elections and create such an environment favourable for polls.
