A large -scale pond is being filled with a large pond at night at the bypass of Burichang Upazila Sadar in Cumilla. Although the ponds or reservoirs are officially banned, there have been reactions among the common people. However, the responsible authority is absolutely silent.

According to local businessmen, ordinary people, many responsibilities, including the location of the hundred -year -old government pond, surrounded the bypass road adjacent to the Burichang Upazila Parishad of the district. Burichang Post Office, BADC, Ansar, VDP Office, on the south and Public Health Engineering Office on the east side are situated around the pond. Burichang Upazila Parishad offices, residential buildings, mosques and other government institutions in the vast area have relied on this pond for decades. For fish farming, the pond used to collect some revenue in the past.

Recently, the pond was left abandoned for unknown reasons. In addition, for the last 3-5 days, a local influential palace started filling the pond with sand in the west-north corner of the pond in the middle of the night.

Local sources, who are reluctant to be named, said the lease of the government -owned pond has been closed for years. Taking advantage of that opportunity, an influential group has begun the process of filling the soil to build shop-jute in this place. It is also heard that many people have been finalized from the sale of position. They also said that during the rainy season, rain created waterlogging. Having the pond is somewhat helpful in the drainage of the water. Besides, thousands of shops, businesses, houses, educational institutions, banks, banks, hotel-restaurants rely on this pond in case of accidental fire incident at Burichang Sadar Upazila Bazar.

Asked about the matter, Cumilla BADC Executive Engineer Mohammad Nur Mohammad said the Upazila administration had shown a place for the construction of the building. Now that the debate has arisen. We have kept the work postponed. Assistant Commissioner of Burichang Upazila Chamul Islam said the pond was the upazila administration. He does not know about filling.
