CDA needs to step up supervision to comply with building code: Land Minister

Published : 23 Feb 2023 09:57 PM

Land Minister Saifuzzaman Chowdhury Jabed has asked CDA to take steps to increase supervision to comply with the building code.

The minister said this at the opening ceremony of the housing fair organized at five-star hotel Radisson Blu on Thursday.  This four-day fair is being held under the initiative of Real Estate and Housing Association of Bangladesh (REHAB) Chattogram Regional Committee.

The land minister said that housing companies are developing.  Tall buildings are being built.  But how many obey the building code?  CDA should keep an eye on this.  A request to the developers, the right size of flats should be explained to the customers. Many housing institutions are taking away 25-30 percent in the name of common area, which is unethical.  Such activities should be avoided.

He said, residential owners need to show more creativity.  People's refreshment should be kept in mind in building construction.  Housing institutions should be built with open fields and adequate walking facilities. In the event, the land minister announced that the land tax will be collected completely online from next Pahela Boishakh.

Chattogram City Corporation (CCC) Mayor Freedom Fighter Rezaul Karim Chowdhury said in the speech of the special guest that after giving the land to the developer, many organizations cannot hand over the land even after the expiry of the contract.  It is discrediting the developer.  Rehab should take action in this case.  Those who will not be members of Rehab should not be involved in housing business.  As a city mayor, my organization can do one thing to alleviate people's suffering.  That is to stop giving trade license.  However, this proposal must come from rehab.  REHAB urges members to keep flat prices within the purchasing power of the middle class.

Rehab Vice President and Chattogram Regional Committee Chairman Abdul Kauiam Chowdhury said, a master plan is being made in Chattogram.  A master plan should not be created that everyone has questions about.  There were many problems with past master plans.  He demanded to create a secondary market for buying and selling flats and take the land registration fee to a tolerable level.

Chairman of Chattogram Development Authority M Zahirul Alam Dubash, Chairman of Chattogram Chamber of Commerce and Industries Mahbubul Alam, Rehab Shamsul Al Amin Kajal, Rehab First Vice President Kamal Mahmud, Third Vice President Sharif Ali Khan, Rehab Chattogram Fair Co-Chairman-1 Engineer Didarul Haque Chowdhury, Rehab Director and Rehab Chattogram Fair Co-Chairman Mahbub Sobhan Jalal Tanveer.

The theme of this year's fair is ‘Swapnil Abashan Sabuj Desh, Lal Sabujer Bangladesh’.  48 institutions are participating in the fair.  Among them, there are two organizations as gold sponsors.  These are Wecon Properties Limited and RAK Ceramics Bangladesh.  17 organizations are participating as co-sponsors.  The fair will be held daily from 10 am to 9 pm.  There are two types of tickets for entering the fair.  'Single' entry fee is Tk.50 and 'Multiple' entry fee is Tk.100.  Visitors can enter four times with multiple tickets.
