‘CDA coordination with CCC essential’

Published : 15 Mar 2021 08:42 PM

Considering the plight of the city dwellers, Chittagong City Corporation (CCC) has started cleaning the canals on an urgent basis.  On the other hand, the Chittagong Development Authority (CDA) has to do the same for the waterlogging project.

Without coordination this is a waste of money as well as overlapping.  CDA coordination with city corporations is essential here.

CDA Chairman M Zahirul Alam made the remarks during a courtesy call on Mayor Md Rezaul Karim Chowdhury at the CCC office at Tiger Pass on Sunday afternoon.

The CCC mayor said the coordination of the work of the two organisations, City Corporation and CDA, is very important.

There were 57 canals in the city.  Work is underway to rehabilitate 36 canals through CDA initiative.

The CCC will extend all possible cooperation to those responsible for the implementation of the project.  The CCC has the manpower and equipment that the CDA does not have, but the City Corporation does not have the financial capacity.

He said the activities that the CCC has undertaken with the 100-day priority target are ongoing.

Rezaul Karim said that in order to implement the CDA project, alternative dams have to be made in the canals and ditches before the onset of the monsoon season.  Otherwise there will be waterlogging again, he feared.

CDA chairman M Zahirul Alam said there was no alternative of coordination between both the CCC and

CDA.  CDA is working to restore 36 canals in the city. Of these, 22 points have been identified and the project is in progress.  The CDA will remove obstructions to the water flow of the canals before next June.

He also put emphasised on the involvement of political, social and professionals in the implementation of the project.

The CDA chairman insisted on forming a coordination committee with engineers from both the organisations.  He put emphasised on coordinating all the work between CCC and CDA in future.

CCC Chief Executive Officer Kazi Muhammad Mozammel Haque, Chief Engineer Lt. Col. Sohail Ahmed, Acting Secretary and Chief Revenue Officer Mohammad Nazrul Islam, Mayor's Private Secretary Muhammad Abul Hashem, Additional Chief Engineer Rafiqul Islam Manik were present on the occasion.

The CDA Chairman was accompanied by Chief Engineer Kazi Hassan Bin Shams, Project Director Lt. Col. Mohammad Shah Ali, Finance and Accounting Officer Mohammad Nazer, Urban Planner Abdullah Al Omar, Estate Officer Kamrul Islam Chowdhury.
