Chairman of Chattogram Development Authority (CDA) heroic freedom fighter Mohammod Yunus  visited at No. 19 South Baklia ward in Chattogram city to find the cause of waterlogging in the area on Friday. The ward is known to be the most waterlogging prone area in Chattogram city.

CDA Chairman Mohammod Yunus along with the locals of the area visited several places of the ward after the Jumm’ah prayer at Belwar Khan Sawadagar Jame Masjid in Mia Khan town on Friday.

During the visit, he told the locals that he was visiting the area not only as the Chairman of CDA, but also to provide service to them. He said he went there to find out the cause of water logging in that area. He wants to free Chattogram from the waterlogging problem and he will need assistance of the locals to do that.

He urged them not to dump their garbage and polythene bags in drains and canals. He said that it is our responsibility to keep the drains and canals clean. He also told them not to build houses by occupying the roads and canals. We all have to come forward to make the city livable and environment-friendly, he added.

CDA Chairman visited Mia Khan Town road, Murali road, Ismail Faiz road, West Para, Chaktai connecting canal, Chaktai canal, Chaktai school area, Haji Mansur Ali road area, Badar Ali Khan road area, Ishak’s Pole and Kalamia bazar area. He spoke with the locals of the ward during the visit.

He said that South Baklia area becomes waterlogged if there is only a small amount of rainfall or tide due to occupying and narrowing down the canal, directly dumping of garbage in the drains and canals. Although some positive outcomes were achieved due to the ongoing waterlogging removal project of CDA, it won’t be available once the project ends. He said under this project, the canals will be free from occupiers.

No matter how strong the occupiers are they will be evicted. However, the permanent solution of this problem is in our hand. If we dump dirt, garbage and polythene bags in the canals, we will have to face such problems, he added.

General Secretary of Khatungonj Trade and Industries Association Syed Sagir Ahmed, Ward Councilors Haji Nurul Haque and Md Nurul Alam Mia, Awami League leader of the city Abdur Rahman, president of ward No. 19 Awami League Nurul Alam Nuru, president of Bakshirhat ward Awami League Jahangir Alam, Awami League leaders Shafiul Azam Bahar and MR Yasin, Joint Secretary of Metropolitan Chhatra League Abu Saleh Noor Rimon and others were present at that time.
