Chattogram City Corporation (CCC) will launch a month-long measles-rubella vaccination campaign targeting more than 300,000 children across the city, Mayor Dr. Shahadat Hossain announced.
The campaign will run from April 20 to May 20, 2026, aiming to bring all children aged between 6 months and 59 months under vaccination coverage within the CCC area.
The announcement was made at a press conference held on Thursday at the CCC Public Library conference room at Laldighi.
The event was chaired by Acting Chief Executive Officer Mohammad Ashraful Amin. Among others present were Divisional Director (Health) Sheikh Fazle Rabbi, Civil Surgeon Dr. Jahangir Alam, Chief Health Officer Dr. Md. Imam Hossain Rana, along with Dr. Hosne Ara, Dr. Tapan Kumar, Dr. Khadija Ahmed, Dr. Abdul Majid Shikdar, UNICEF Health Officer Dr. Delwar Hossain, WHO Divisional Coordinator Dr. Emong Pro Chowdhury, and Islamic Foundation Deputy Director Fahmida Begum.
Mayor Dr. Shahadat said measles is a highly contagious viral disease that weakens children’s immune systems and can lead to serious complications such as pneumonia, diarrhea, malnutrition, and even brain inflammation. He stressed that it is crucial to ensure every child is vaccinated.
Under the campaign, all children aged 6 to 59 months in the Chattogram City Corporation area will receive a single dose of the measles-rubella vaccine. Vaccination activities will be conducted daily from 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM, except Fridays and public holidays.
According to CCC sources, a total of 300,300 children across 41 wards in 7 zones have been targeted. To implement the campaign, 48 fixed teams, 205 outreach teams, 41 mop-up teams, and 14 evening vaccination sessions will be deployed.
Parents are encouraged to register their children online using a 17-digit birth registration number. However, no child will be denied vaccination even without registration. Special efforts will be made to identify and vaccinate children in slum and high-risk areas.
The mayor also said extensive preparations have already been completed, including training health workers, mobilizing volunteers, coordinating with religious leaders and teachers, and conducting public awareness campaigns.
He urged all sections of society—including journalists, teachers, imams, and professionals—to support the initiative, saying that a healthy and safe Chattogram can only be achieved through collective efforts.
The campaign will be officially inaugurated on April 20 at 10:00 AM at the CCC General Hospital auditorium.
The initiative is being implemented with support from the Health Department, CCC, the Directorate General of Health Services, the Expanded Programme on Immunization (EPI), the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, UNICEF, Gavi, and the World Health Organization, among others.
