Chittagong City Corporation (CCC) Mayor Md Rezaul Karim Chowdhury has announced that the government will administer the Mordana (Covid-19) vaccine in 600 doses daily in 41 wards of the city in six days from next Saturday.  Anyone above 18 years of age or interested in the city can be vaccinated under this.  This is a good and comforting message in the wake of the Covid-19 infection and the rising tide of death.

The mayor was speaking as the chief guest at an information meeting on the adoption and application of Moderna (Covid-19) vaccine at the Theater Institute Chittagong (TIC) auditorium on Sunday morning.

Highlighting the practical workings of the vaccination campaign, he said at least 600 doses of 200 doses would be given daily at 3 booths in each ward.  Each booth will have 2 trained vaccinators and 3 volunteers.

Applicants will be able to take the vaccine on a priority basis from Senior Citizen, Registered Citizen, Applicant Citizen and Councilors.  Anyone can apply in the form provided to the ward councilor from Monday.

The mayor said the role of councilors in the vaccination campaign is crucial as they are directly related to the good-evil and advantage-disadvantage of the locals.  Vaccination campaigning activities are a great opportunity for them to provide services.

If they can perform this task well as the local people's representatives elected by the locals, they will be able to gain the trust and confidence of all.  The CCC has successfully met the vaccination target within the stipulated time in the first phase in the city.  Eid al-Adha has maintained its reputation for protecting the city's healthy environment by removing and dumping animal waste within 12 hours.  This achievement has been made possible due to the full cooperation and contribution of the councilors.

He said there has been an increase in the rate of covid-19 infection as well as the spread of dengue and chikungunya.  However, although its spread is not yet as pronounced as in Dhaka, we have to be careful to prevent it from now on.  The councils have to take care of the clean water so that it does not accumulate anywhere in the city, in the houses or in the open.

He said that despite the doubts about the effectiveness of the sprayed drugs and the lack of equipment, everything is being done according to the capacity.  The research report of a team of experts from CU Biochemistry, Biology, Botany, Geography and Ecology will come to us on Tuesday to verify the effectiveness of mosquito repellent.  A 30-day crushing program will be started to eradicate mosquitoes.

The Health Standing Committee was chaired by Councilor JaharLalHazari and conducted by Chief Health Officer DrSelim Akhter Chowdhury.  CCC CEO Mohammad ShahidulAlam was the special guest at the meeting.  Dr. SarwarAlam presented the campaign presentation at the meeting.  The meeting was attended by ward councilors, reserved councilors, department heads and officials.
