Chittagong City Corporation (CCC) revenue collection has increased during the Corona period. In the last three months, about 105 crore and 44 lakh taka was collected. This 2.5 crore taka is more than that of the same period last year.
As a result of increase in income, officers and employees salaries are being paid regularly. The corporation has even started giving gratuities to retired officers and employees.
CCC administrator Khorshed Alam Sujan said. “The irregularities will be punished. Those who do well will be rewarded. I have adopted this policy of CCC. The biggest thing is that the townspeople have put their trust in me. They believe me and have started paying taxes. It is their deposit. I will not lose the deposit. I will spend their money for them.”
According to CCC Revenue Department sources, 102 crore 86 lakh 73 thousand and 100 taka was collected from July to September of the 2019-2020 financial year. There was no pandemic then. In this current financial year, 105 crore 44 lakh 23 thousand and 253 taka was collected in three months.
The revenue sources of the City Corporation are municipal tax, trade license fee, land transfer, advertising tax (Sticker, Banner, and Festoon etc.), shop rent, film and entertainment tax (Entertainment Tax), vehicle mechanical, non-mechanical and miscellaneous. The highest income in these sectors is from the municipal tax.
CCC received Tk 61.71 crore in the first three months of last financial year. In the current financial year, it has increased from about 10 crore to 71 crore 69 lakh taka. However, the renewal of trade licenses has slowed down as many small and medium traders had to leave the city during the corona period. If the situation was normal, the revenue collection would have increased a lot more. Several officials of the revenue department have made such comments.
Concerned people said that Khorshed Alam Sujan has tried to bring strict discipline since he took charge as the administrator. His formed multiple investigation committees. Hundreds of officers and employees have been transferred. Some have been made OSD. He is investigating the allegations directly through his social media account. This has caused great panic among the officers and employees.
CCC Chief Revenue Officer Mofidul Alam said monitoring and motivation are the keys to success. Currently the CCC administrator is very sincere and hardworking. That's why everyone is active. No one was seen coming to the office at 9 am in the past. Now everyone comes to the office at the right time in the morning. Discipline and speed of work have increased. As a result, revenue collection has increased.
