An organization called 'Enduring Energy', a subsidiary of Solar Power Limited, has proposed to generate electricity from waste in Chittagong City Corporation (CCC) area.  The organization made the proposal at a meeting with CCC administrator Alhaj Mohammad Khorshed Alam Sujan on Tuesday.  The project will require a total of 30 acres of land and 2,500 tonnes of waste per day, they said.

Electricity will be generated from waste in ‘Solid Recovered Fuel’ (SRF) method.  The SRF method can be used to produce 30 percent carbon, 85 percent nitrogen, 90 percent sulfur and 50 per cent chlorine from coal to fuel, which can be adjusted to 40 percent through water rather than coal, they said.  Which is suitable for the environment.

Khandaker Noor A Alam, Managing Director of Enduring Energy, presented a report on the project to the corporation's administrator.  The project was later discussed in detail by CCC officials with Enduring Energy.

Enduring Energy officials said that according to various national dailies, 7 feet of polythene is currently deposited at the bottom of the Karnaphuli River in Chittagong.  Which is harmful to the environment.  Moreover, Bangladesh generated 58 percent more electricity in 2018-19 than it needed.  So the main purpose of our project is not to generate electricity.  So the aim of the organization is to get rid of garbage.

CCC administrator Sujan said the final decision would be taken after the ministry approves the project proposal.
