CCC-Netherlands initiative to introduce modern technology in waste and drainage management in Ctg

A high-level meeting was held between Chattogram City Corporation (CCC) and the Embassy of the Netherlands to modernize waste and drainage management in Chattogram city.

The meeting took place on Tuesday at the CCC office, this delegation led by the Ambassador of the Netherlands, Joris van Bommel, held discussions with senior CCC officials.

The progress of the “Integrated Solid Waste and Drainage Management Project” was reviewed during the meeting. Representatives from the Netherlands Embassy, along with technical experts from Dutch firms SweepSmart B.V. and CDR International were present.

Detailed discussions were held on the use of modern technology, sustainable solutions, and efficient management in waste handling and drainage cleaning in the city. The expert team presented the findings of a pre-feasibility study, which was highly appreciated by CCC.

CCCOfficials assured that the report would be carefully reviewed upon receipt.

CCC Acting Chief Executive Officer and Secretary Md. Ashraful Amin, Chief Conservancy Officer Captain Ikhtiar Uddin Ahmed Chowdhury, Chief Education Officer Dr. Kissinger Chakma, Chief Engineer Anisur Rahman, Chief Accounts Officer Humayun Kabir Chowdhury, Chief Health Officer Dr. Md. Imam Hossain Rana, Superintending Engineer (Civil) Farhadul Alam, Malaria and Mosquito Control Officer Md. Sharful Islam Mahi, and the Mayor’s Adviser on Waterlogging Shahriar Khaled, among others, attended the meeting.

From the Netherlands side, First Secretary Inge Klaassen, expert Neeltje Kielen and Senior Policy Officer Shibly Sadik were also present.

The meeting also discussed various Public-Private Partnership (PPP) models for sustainable implementation of the project. CCC expressed interest in utilizing the Netherlands’ world-class expertise in water and waste management. 

CCC also assured positive support regarding land allocation required for project infrastructure.

As part of the visit, the Dutch Ambassador and delegation visited the Halishahar landfill and the Chattogram WASA sewerage treatment plant.

CCC said that the Netherlands is a strategic partner, and the implementation of this project will transform Chattogram’s waste management into a more environmentally friendly and modern system.
