Chattogram City Corporation (CCC) Mayor Md Rezaul Karim Chowdhury said that if there is no coordination of activities between Chattogram City Corporation and service organizations, the benefits of ongoing development activities will be threatened.

The mayor made these comments at the 25th general meeting of the CCC elected 6th Parishad on Tuesday.

CCC Mayor said, after I took over as Mayor, the Prime Minister has allotted the highest project of 2500 crores in the history of CCC.  If the ongoing projects including this project are completed, there will be a revolutionary change in Chattogram.  If service agencies do not coordinate with CCC, the benefits of ongoing development activities will be threatened.

Chattogram WASA will cut the road for the ongoing sewerage project.  Not only WASA, any organization before cutting a road must obtain written permission from CCC and pay CCC dues through proper estimates.  The road should be cut in coordination with the concerned councillors.  We will build the road and take strict action if there is any complaint that any organization is cutting new roads in the dark of night. He said, I would like to thank the Prime Minister on behalf of the people of Chattogram as the children and mayor of Chattogram for taking extensive activities including the construction of flyovers from tunnels to exploit the huge economic potential of Chattogram.

Due to lack of permanent office of Chattogram City Corporation (CCC), there is a problem in providing civic services.  I have decided to build a permanent office with CCC's own funds.  In the interests of smooth completion of project work, a contractor shall not be awarded multiple works in one tender notice.  And I will blacklist the contractors who can't work properly.  PC Road wouldn't have happened if I wasn't tough.  Finished the work on PC Road by being tough with risk.

Contractors involved in unethical activities will not be exempted.  I am also warning the officials to take disciplinary action if there is public suffering due to someone's negligence.

In the meeting, representatives of various government agencies of Chattogram related to CCC activities including panel mayor and councilors presented their statements.

Mayor said, waste management is being modernized to make the city clean.  Educational institutions, health complexes, roads and ward offices will be renovated on the basis of authority to properly utilize the revenue proceeds.  We need to properly utilize the Tk 275 crore covid response funds from the World Bank.

“Not only material development but cultural activities also need to increase for overall development.  This year, CCC has organized a larger book fair than other years.  Along with the construction of murals based on the liberation war at various intersections of Chattogram, we will name the roads and buildings after the children of Chattogram.  We will build an aesthetic city by constructing children's parks and recreation centers in every ward to make people's leisure time enjoyable."

CCC Mayor said that Chattogram Development Authority (CDA) is conducting the project to reduce flooding, people in many areas of Chattogram are suffering because the drains and canals are filled due to retaining walls.  I have told several times to the concerned senior authorities including the CDA chairman so that people do not suffer in monsoon for this project.  However, no effective action is yet to be seen from the CDA.  If there is any objection to the house tax, the tax is collected through appeal.  People are returning home with a smile.

The meeting approved the minutes of the previous general meeting, the minutes of the tender committee and the minutes of the standing committee.  Standing Committee Chairmen presented the minutes of their respective Standing Committees.  CCC chief executive officer Sheikh Muhammad Tauhidul Islam, panel mayor, councilors, CCC departmental and branch heads including CCC secretary Khaled Mahmud and representatives of various government agencies of the city were present in the meeting.
