French Ambassador to Bangladesh Mr. Jean Marin Sasuh paid a courtesy call on Chittagong City Corporation Mayor Md. Rezaul Karim Chowdhury in the office room of Nagar Bhaban at Tiger Pass on Wednesday.

"European countries were on our side in the great liberation war and they provided us with support and diplomatic assistance," the mayor said.  Their multifaceted support to Bangladesh's ongoing sustainable development activities has also strengthened the bonds of inter-country friendship.  Chittagong is one of the natural ports of the world and at the same time many mega projects are being implemented in greater Chittagong.

As a result, Chittagong is now revered by the world as a fertile ground for multidimensional foreign investment.   The mayor added that a country like France would be able to make a positive difference if it was integrated with advanced technology.  He called on the French ambassador to make the project a priority.

He said the kind of activities in the field of literature and culture that Alliance Francaise has been conducting from two centers in Dhaka and Chittagong for long 55 years has had a significant impact on the relations between the two countries.  Therefore, Aliance Francaise is an important tool in exchanging ideas on the literary and cultural aspects of our two countries.

The French ambassador said that our government must evaluate the potential of Chittagong.  We have already implemented a project to supply potable water in Dhaka and similar steps have been taken in Chittagong to maintain the continuity of the success we are going to achieve.

Considering the global importance of Chittagong, I will try to continue the necessary diplomatic efforts to find out how much and how much our government can be interested in investing here.  Since Chittagong is a new addition to international socio-economic development, France must respond if a conducive environment for global investment in the IT sector, tourism, health and education, is ensured.  This will strengthen the Bangladesh-France alliance.

Acting Secretary and Chief Revenue Officer of Chittagong City Corporation Mohammad Nazrul Islam, Private Secretary to Mayor Muhammad Abul Hashem, Chief Health Officer DrSelim Akhter Chowdhury, Dr Mohammad Ali, Director of Alliance Francaise Dr. SelvamTorej and DrGurupad Chakraborty were present on the occasion.
