Red Crescent Chattogram celebrates World Red Cross Red Crescent Day on May 8 with a colourful program. On the theme 'Be Human', a discussion meeting was held on Sunday at Jamieson Red Crescent Maternal Hospital in the city on the implementation of Youth Red Crescent, Chattogram organized by Bangladesh Red Crescent Society Chattogram District and City Unit.
At the beginning of the programme, national and red crescent flags were hoisted, colourful peace rallies, voluntary blood donation programs, daycare competitions and gift items for new-borns were distributed.
Dr. Sheikh Shafiul Azam, Member of the Board of Management of Bangladesh Red Crescent Society and Acting Chairman of the District Red Crescent Society presided over the function. The keynote speaker was Prof. Abdul Alim, Secretary and Chairman (Acting) of Chattogram Board of Education. District Red Crescent Secretary Md. Aslam Khan and City Red Crescent Secretary Abdul Jabbar were present as special guests. Youth Red Crescent Chattogram Youth Chief Gazi Md. Iftekar Hossain delivered the welcome speech and Tanvir Ahmed Chowdhury Mahin, Head of Organizational Department conducted the function. City Red Crescent Executive Board Member Mohsin Uddin Chowdhury Faisal, Md. Anwar Azam, District Red Crescent Executive Board Member Shahadat Hossain Rumel, Rashed Khan Menon were present at the occasion. District and City Red Crescent Unit Level Officers Abdur Rashid Khan and Abdur Rahim Akon, Youth Red Crescent, Chattogram Deputy Youth Head Johnny Chowdhury, Deputy Youth Head Md. Aminul Haque Tareq, School-College Unit responsible teachers, senior youth members, Lifetime members of district and city units and youth volunteers were present.
M Rezaul Karim Chowdhury, Mayor of Chattogram City Corporation and Chairman of City Red Crescent, said that the young volunteers had worked at the risk of their lives during the Corona period. The role of the Young Red Crescent volunteers during the Coronation period is unforgettable in Chattogram. Recognition of volunteers working in the service of humanity is just a matter of time. Covid warriors will be honoured by giving them recognition. Everyone has to become a human being and make life beautiful. Let us swear today that we must always work in the service of humanity.
