Due to the waterlogging of Chattogram city, many people could not even light the stove and did not have the opportunity to buy groceries.
Chattogram City Corporation (CCC) Mayor Freedom Fighter Md. Rezaul Karim Chowdhury distributed food items to nine thousand marooned people on Monday.
The councilors delivered food to the water-logged people on behalf of the mayor, evacuating the people of the area at risk of landslides to safe shelters.
CCC Mayor Md. Rezaul Karim Chowdhury said, after learning that many areas of the city were flooded due to record rains and people were trapped in their houses, food was arranged for them. Besides, operations are underway to evacuate vulnerable people in waterlogged and hilly areas. On Monday afternoon, West Bakolia councillor Mohammad Shahidul Alam delivered dry food to 300 families. Councillor M Ashraful Alam is distributing food among 2000 water-affected families in East Sholashar area. Councillor Kazi Nurul Amin delivered food to 3,000 submerged people in Mohra ward Saraipara councillor Md. Nurul Amin handed over various cooking materials including rice, eggs to 300 families. South Agrabad councillor Md. Sheikh Zafrul Haider Chowdhury distributed dry food among 200 families. Chowkbazar ward Councillor Noor Mostafa delivered food to 500 families of Tinu Ward. Chandgaon councillor Md Esrarul Haque distributed dry food to 1000 people and cooked food to 500 people. Earlier, he fed 8,000 people on Saturday and 6,000 water-bound people on Sunday.
