Chattogram City Corporation Mayor Md Rezaul Karim Chowdhury said a UN report found that food prices had not risen sharply in the last 60 years, with the largest supply of edible oil in the global market coming from Russia and Ukraine due to war between the affected two countries.

He was speaking as the chief guest while distributing food items among low-income people on the occasion of holy month of Ramadan at the personal initiative of Dr Nisar Uddin Ahmed Manzur, councilor of Uttar Kattoli ward on Sunday morning.

He said that on the other hand, the prices of sugar, milk and flour have increased exponentially.  That is why commodity prices have risen slightly in line with the world market.  A number of rogue traders in our country have taken advantage of this opportunity to control the market through syndicates.

With the prudent distribution of food items to one crore families by the prudence of our Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, all the machinations of the vicious circle have been destroyed.

Ward Councilor Dr Nisar Uddin Ahmed Monju presided over the function.  Ward Awami League leaders Iqbal Chowdhury, Habibur Rahman Habib, Shafi Bangli, Abul Kalam Abu, HM Abul Khair spoke.
