Chattogram City Corporation (CCC) Mayor Dr. Shahadat Hossain, has announced the construction of 38 foot overbridges to ensure safer and more organized traffic management in the port city. He also revealed plans to build an additional 7 to 8 foot overbridges at important locations in the future.

The announcement was made on Sunday while laying the foundation stone of a foot overbridge in the New Monsurabad area under Ward No. 10 North Kattali.

CCC mayor said that these overbridges are being constructed in a planned manner under the project titled “Expansion of Airport Road and Development of Various Roads and Important Infrastructure.” He noted that the initiative will help ensure safe crossing for pedestrians on busy roads.

According to CCC sources, construction of 4 foot overbridges has already been completed under the project. Work on 15 bridges is currently ongoing, while the tender process for another 17 is underway.

The foot overbridge being constructed in New Monsurabad is estimated to cost around Tk 1 Crore 56 Lakh. It will be approximately 31.5 meters long and 3 meters wide, featuring two staircases on both sides.

The mayor mentioned that the bridge is particularly important due to its proximity to AK Khan Gate on the Dhaka-Chattogram highway. Once completed, it will facilitate safe road crossing for long-distance passengers, local residents, and students. Residents of North Kattali and North Pahartali areas are expected to benefit the most.

He said that the construction of these foot-overbridges will not only reduce road accidents but also help ease traffic congestion.

Mayor Dr. Shahadat Hossain said, “Urban development is not just about building infrastructure, but also about ensuring the safety of citizens. Through a planned transport system, we aim to build a safer city.”

CCC Senior officials, engineers, public representatives and local residents were present at the event.
