A case was filed against eight people, including former Banshkhali Member of Parliament (MP) Mustafizur Rahaman Chowdhury and general secretary of Banshkhali Upazila Awami League Abdul Goffur, on Tuesday.
The court has accepted the case and instructed Officer-in-Charge of Banshakhli police station to record the case as FIR.
Former Acting Chairman of Kalipur union, Nurul Haque, filed the case in the court of Senior Judicial Magistrate Court Judge Abdul Hamid. A large number of lawyers including Advocate Mohammad Helal Uddin, Advocate Taksimul Goni Emon, Advocate Lutful Haider and Advocate Abu Naser handled the case on behalf of the plaintiff.
According to the complaint, extortion, grabbing lands and gardens, setting fire to the house of opposition party people and terrorist activities were conducted under the shelter and order of former Banshkhali MP Muztafizur Rahaman Chowdhury. Making specific allegation, the plaintiff said, the accused occupied his litchi garden on December 25 in 2023 and July 25 in 2024. The accused demanded ransom of Tk 10 lakh from Acting UP Chairman Nurul Haque and vandalized his house by the order of former MP Mustafizur Rahaman Chowdhury.
Plaintiff Nurul Haque said the accused immensely oppressed him in the past using their power. They filed false cases one after another against his children and his family members. They did not even let him live in his own house.
Lawyer of the plaintiff Advocate Helal Uddin said the court accepted the case and instructed the Officer-in-Charge of Banshkhali police station to file it as FIR.
Officer-in-Charge of Banshkhali police station, Tofayel Ahmed, said he heard about the case. Necessary measures will be taken after receiving the copy of the order from the court, he said.
