With a vow to bringing down the prices of reconditioned vehicles within the reach of the middle income people, the bi-annual election of Bangladesh Reconditioned Vehicles Importers and Dealers Association (BARVIDA) is being held today (Saturday).

Two separate panels are competing in this year's election - one is Democratic Council panel and another one is Combined Council panel.

Director of FBCCI, Abdul Haque is leading the Democratic Council panel while against him the former President of BARVIDA, Md. Abdul Hamid Sharif is leading the Combined Council panel. Besides, a total of seven candidates are competing directorial posts individually.

Talking to Bangladesh Post about the polls, FBCCI Director Abdul Haque expressed his hope that the voters will vote him spontaneously and make him the winner.

He assured of taking effective move to bring down the price of reconditioned vehicles within the reach of middle income people.

"Prices of vehicles will not go up with the existing duty, but this cars are the dream of middle -income groups, so the prices need to come down as part of the targets of vision 2021." Mr. Haque added.

He said buyers have to pay duty upto 127 percent whereas if this rate of duty can be brought down gradually, only then the middle-income group will be able to buy cars.

He said election is important because the sector has already been facing a big challenge; conspiracy is being hatched to stop import of reconditioned vehicles, whereas customers’ first choice is Japanese reconditioned cars.

"Presently a total of 40 varieties of cars are being imported from Japan. Leaders of BRVIDA, once elected will work wholeheartedly  for this sector because the sector is in real crisis at the moment, so electing worthy candidates is very important", he added.

A voter of BARVIDA told Bangladesh Post that there is no alternative to electing able, innovative and skilled  candidates for the overall development of the sector, this election will be highly competitive.

Today's polls will elect a 25 member new executive committee for 2019-21.

The elected 25 directors will later elect one President, 3 Vice Presidents for the body. BARVIDA has now a total 689 voters.

Leaders of both the panels are now passing busy hours seeking support votes from their members colleagues by visiting them as well as through SMS request by mobile phone.
