Campaign launched to save mother hilsa in Munshiganj

A campaign was launched to protect mother hilsa in the Meghna River. The operation was carried out under the leadership of Munshiganj Sadar Upazila Assistant Commissioner (Land) Sheikh Mezbah-ul-Saberin in Bakchar area of Meghna River from 3 pm to evening on Wednesday. 

During the operation, 4 fishermen, 65 thousand meters net, 1 fishing boat and 3 kg hilsa fish were seized. The arrestees were Mohammad Helal Mia, 38, son of Shah Ali Sardar of Bakchar village of Munshiganj Sadar upazila, Mohammad Manik, 18, and Mohammad Sharif, 12, son of Mohammad Helal Miah of Bakchar village of Munshiganj Sadar upazila and Mohammad Montaz Uddin, son of Kalai Bepari of Syedpur village of Munshiganj Sadar upazila. (50). 

65,000 meters of net was burnt in kerosene on the banks of the river. Fishing boats were given to Gazaria Naval Police Outpost and 3 kg of hilsa fish was distributed among the poor.

At the end of the operation, the mobile court sentenced Md. Helal Mia, Md. Manik and Md. Montaz Uddin to 8 days imprisonment for violating the government order under Section 188 of the Penal Code 1860. On the other hand, Md. Sharif was released with a fine of three thousand rupees.

Munshiganj Sadar Upazila Senior Fisheries Officer Md Tipu Sultan, naval police members and cost guard members were present during the operation.
