Call for observing religious festivals in harmony

On Tuesday at 11 am in Bandarban Sadar Upazila Parishad auditorium, 140 Buddhist Viharas and four Buddhist Vihara Management Committees in Sadar Upazila were given a DO letter of foodgrains to Buddhist Viharas on the occasion of Prabarna Purnima (Ashwini Purnima), one of the religious festivals of Buddhists.

The minister of the Ministry of Chittagong Hill Tracts Affairs said this on the occasion of the grant. He said Durga Puja of Sanatan religion is going on, Prabarana Purnima of Buddhists and Eidmiladunnabi of Islam is going on at the same time. Religious festivals are one after another. While celebrating their own religious festivals, he urged people of other religions to take care not to cause trouble or create obstacles in the observance of religion.

He also said that everyone will celebrate the religious festivals in a beautiful, grand and orderly way by maintaining communal harmony because twelve ethnic groups including Bengalis live in Bandarban hill district which is not found in any other district of the country. It is everyone's responsibility to maintain communal harmony. On behalf of the Prime Minister, on the occasion of Pravarana Purnima, he handed over DO letters of five hundred kilograms of food grains to each Buddhist monastery to the present monks and the management committee of the monastery.

In Bandarban district, disaster management directorate in seven upazilas provided 242 metric tons of food grains to 484 Buddhist monasteries and 115 metric tons of food grains to four institutions from the Ministry of Chittagong Hill Tracts Affairs.

Sadar Upazila Chairman AKM Jahangir, Sadar Upazila Executive Officer Sajia Afroz Sadar Upazila Vice Chairman Raju mong marma, Female Vice Chairman Yoin sha marma and chairmen of six Union Parishads of Sadar Upazila were present.
