Call for making Gaibandha town free from pollution

The International Zero Waste Day was observed in  Gaibandha  district as elsewhere in the country on Friday with a call to build pollution and waste free clean Gaibandha town. Marking the day, Gaibandha Municipality chalked out the elaborate programmes.

A rally was brought out in the morning from the premises of the municipality and ended at central Shaheed Minar after parading the main roads of the town .   ADC-General Dewan Moudud Ahmed led the rally. Later, a discussion was also held on the premises of the Shaheed Minar on the significance of the day. ADC-General Dewan Moudud Ahmed addressed the function as the chief guest. Additional police super Abdullah Al- Mamun, chief executive officer and senior assistant secretary Md. Ershad Uddin addressed the discussion,  among others. Mayor of the municipality Md. Matlubour Rahman in his welcome speech said the municipality had adopted a number of plans to make the town clean.

Two 6-storey buildings are being constructed in the town for 80 horizon families., he  said.

Waste removal vans of the municipality and its cleaning workers are engaged in cleanliness working in the municipality from dawn to dusk, but a section of poura  dwellers are dumping waste here and there of the town resulting problems  to remove the waste timely, he added.

In future, mobile courts would be conducted in the municipality in cooperation with administration to keep the municipality clean, he further added.

At last, the mayor urged  the town dwellers to increase their civic sense to make the town beautiful.

ADC-General Dewan Moudud Ahmed in his speeches emphasized for conducting cleanliness drive in the town through active participation of the town dwellers to beautify the municiopality.  

Apart from it, cleanliness drives were also conducted in the municipality marking the day.
