A planned, well-regulated and inclusive tourism industry can play an important role in generating employment and boosting economic growth. Hence, the authorities concerned must take necessary steps to ensure safety and security of both domestic and foreign tourists.
We are gravely concerned over the recent incident that a gang of young men allegedly kidnapped a couple and their baby from the sea beach in Cox's Bazar, took them to a desolate place and then to a local hotel where three of them violated the woman. Such barbaric crime must be stopped at any cost as it cannot be tolerated anymore at a place where people travel to see the beauty of nature.
Members of different law enforcement agencies including Tourist Police will have to be stricter in ensuring security of tourists. They must remain vigilant round the clock to thwart any unwanted situation.

There was a time when tourists feared to spend night at the Cox's Bazar sea beach and other tourist destinations as these places were safe haven of thieves and snatchers. But during the incumbent government’s tenure, these places are now safe for tourists both in day and night.
Thousands of people from home and abroad throng the tourist spots to enjoy the country’s natural beauty enriched with sea, mountains and forest between the month of October and March every year. Huge amount of money is transacted in the tourist spots during this period.
It has been noticed that country’s all tourist spots including Cox’s Bazar is now buzzing with a stream of tourists. And the owners of hotels, motels and resorts are happy with the tourist rush after a long lull amid the coronavirus pandemic.
After a long time, tourist places in Bangladesh reopened on August 18. Since then locals heaved a sigh of relief as they got the opportunity to restart their livelihoods with the reopening of hotels, motels, restaurants and tourist spots across the country.
The government will have to focus on the inclusive growth of the country's tourism industry. All government and non-government organisations will have to work together for the development of the tourism industry as well as for the national economic development upholding local culture, traditions and values.
More security checkpoints will have to be set up and additional law enforcement personnel will have to be deployed to strengthen surveillance, especially in the tourist spots considering the smooth and fearless movement of travellers. People always seek help from police when they are in troubles.
Therefore, law enforcement agencies have to gain people’s confidence through their activities. Last but not least, the government must work according to a specific plan in order to promote the diverse tourist attractions of Bangladesh.
